Notes

A dessert counter instead of the wedding cake: pastiera, babà and tiramisù

Three desserts that everyone actually eats, from €630.

Wedding guests celebrating late in the evening in Tuscany

There is a moment at many weddings when a beautiful tiered cake gets cut, photographed, and left standing while guests go back to dancing. A dessert counter does the opposite: three Neapolitan sweets, cut and plated, and by the end of the night there is nothing left to pack away.

The three desserts

  • Pastiera: the Neapolitan tart of ricotta, wheat and orange blossom
  • Babà: the rum-soaked cake Naples adopted as its own
  • Tiramisù

Cake and counter, or counter only

Some couples keep a small cake for the cutting and let the counter feed everyone; others skip the cake entirely. Either works, and plenty of venues are happier not to receive a cake that needs refrigeration.
